Why Coaching Fails

Most coaching doesn't work.
Here's why.

Not all coaching is created equal. If you've been through an engagement that felt expensive and vague — or if you've been burned enough times to be skeptical — that's not your fault. It's the industry's problem. And it's exactly why I built Kunateh Impact differently.

Five reasons most coaching engagements fizzle

I've watched founders spend $15,000 on a coaching program and come out with a nice notebook full of goals they forgot by next quarter. That's not coaching failure — that's coaching working exactly as designed for the coach who sold it. The coaching industry has a discoverable problem: most of it is built to feel productive, not to produce.

"Most founders don't need more advice. They need someone who'll make them actually look at their numbers, hold their feet to the plan, and adjust when it's not working. That requires a system — not a subscription."
— Abdul Kunateh, Kunateh Impact

How Kunateh Impact is built differently

I built Kunateh Impact to solve the problems I've watched destroy other coaching engagements. Not from theory. From being on both sides — as the operator, and as the client who paid too much for advice that didn't translate. The Kunateh Impact model is different in three structural ways.

Most Coaching
Generic frameworks applied loosely
Same playbook for a SaaS founder at $2M and a retail operation at $800K. The coach hasn't built in your sector or run at your scale, so they default to broad principles that sound true and accomplish little.
Kunateh Impact
KIF: your situation, your plan
The Kunateh Impact Framework is diagnostic first. We score your business across five dimensions, identify the highest-leverage constraint, and build a 90-day plan that's specific to your stage, sector, and constraints. Not a playbook — a blueprint.
Most Coaching
Sessions + notes = coaching
You have a great conversation, you take notes, you try to execute, you report back next week. There's no actual tracking, no live numbers, no early warning when you're off plan. You're flying blind between sessions.
Kunateh Impact
Systems-first: Kunateh Impact tools
Every client gets access to Kunateh Impact — including the live cash flow dashboard, KPI tracking, and business health scoring. The coaching is grounded in actual numbers, not memory and good intentions. If you're off plan, we see it before it becomes a crisis.
Most Coaching
Advice without measurement
The coach recommends a change, you try it, you come back and report on whether it worked. But there's no structured measurement, no baseline to compare against, no way to know if the advice was actually right or if you just got lucky.
Kunateh Impact
Measure everything, pivot on data
We build measurement before we build strategy. If an approach isn't working, we find out in weeks, not months — and we adjust with data instead of feelings. Advice without measurement is just hoping. We don't hope. We track.

Who this is actually for — and who it's not

I'm not for everyone. That's intentional. If you're not willing to look at hard numbers, make decisions that are uncomfortable, or execute between sessions, save your money. You'll be frustrated, I'll be frustrated, and the whole thing will be a waste of time.

Coaching works when the founder shows up and does the work. Here's what that means:

  • You're willing to look at your actual cash flow, revenue, and expenses — not just the story you tell about your business.
  • You want to make better decisions, not have decisions made for you. The coach is a sounding board, not a replacement for your judgment.
  • You can commit two to three hours per week to focused work outside of coaching sessions — implementation, tracking, reporting.
  • You're building a real business with real constraints — not a lifestyle project you hope will become a business someday.
  • You want outcomes, not validation. If you need someone to tell you you're doing great, I'm not your guy. If you want someone who'll tell you the truth and build a plan to fix what's broken, let's talk.
  • Usually one of four reasons: the coach has never actually built and scaled a business themselves, so the advice is theoretical; there are no accountability systems — just feelings and check-ins; the client shows up sporadically and expects the coach to compensate for lack of execution; or the engagement was scoped around vibes instead of measurable business outcomes. Coaching without measurement is just expensive conversation.
  • Because founders at $100K–$5M aren't making textbook decisions. They're dealing with cash flow emergencies, bad hires they can't afford to fire, pricing decisions that feel like gambling, and a constant tension between short-term survival and long-term building. A coach who's only studied business — never navigated those specific constraints — will give you answers that sound right in a seminar and fall apart on a Tuesday afternoon. You need someone who's been in the room.
  • Most coaching ends when the session ends. You get notes, maybe a recording, and then you're on your own until next week. Client-gated tools — like the Kunateh Impact cash flow dashboard — mean the work continues between sessions. You log actual numbers, the system surfaces what's actually happening in your business, and the coaching is grounded in real data instead of memory and good intentions. A coach who doesn't want tools between sessions probably doesn't want to be held to what those tools reveal.
  • It means we start by identifying the operational bottleneck — the thing that's actually constraining growth — and we build a system around fixing it. Most coaching does the opposite: you describe a problem, the coach gives you advice, you try it, it partially works, you circle back next week. We build the tracking and measurement first so we can see if the advice was right, and if it wasn't, we pivot with data instead of feelings. Advice without measurement is just hoping.
  • You're probably not ready if you can't commit to looking at your actual business numbers without getting defensive, if you're looking for someone to give you permission to make decisions you've already made, if you're expecting the coach to build the business for you, or if you can't carve out two to three hours per week for focused work outside the sessions themselves. Coaching is a partnership, not a service delivery. If you're not ready to execute, no coach in the world will produce results for you.

If this sounds like
where you are, let's talk.

No pitch. No pressure. An honest conversation about where you are and whether the fit makes sense — on both sides.
